Brewing Tips Coffee

Cold brew coffee is a delicious and smooth specialty coffee drink that hits the spot on a warm, sunny day. We recently wrote about cold brew and how it differs from other iced coffee drinks on the blog. Read all about what makes cold brew so special here

To make cold brew at home, you will need a few household items and some high-quality coffee.  

You will need:

  • 340g (by weight) fresh whole bean coffee (we recommend North Star Espresso!)
  • 1.5 L Water (filtered)
  • Cheese cloth
  • A fine mesh sieve
  • A pitcher
  • A large jar

Step 1
Coarsely grind coffee beans. Place ground coffee in a large container and gradually add cold water. Stir gently to be sure all grounds are saturated. Let brew at fridge temperate for 8-16 hours or until desired flavour achieved.

Step 2
Use a cheesecloth to line a fine-mesh sieve set over a large pitcher. Pour coffee through sieve into pitcher (do not stir); rinse jar and set aside. Discard cheesecloth with grounds - this can be added to your garden soil or composted!

Step 3
Line same sieve with a large coffee filter and set over the jar from before. Strain coffee into jar. This slow-dripping can take up to 45 minutes; do not stir or agitate the coffee as it may become cloudy. Cover and chill.

Step 4
To serve, fill a glass with ice. Dilute 1 part coffee concentrate with 1 part water or milk. Enjoy!
