Seasonal Coffee Artist Series: Winter With Lindsay Joy

Lindsay Joy, founder of the Lindsay Joy Project and as joyful as her name implies, refers to herself on her website as trying “to be a mostly joyful work in progress,” which we can more than agree with. Equator Coffee Roasters welcomes Lindsay into our Seasonal Coffee Artist Series with her vibrant label for our winter blend.

Seasonal Coffee Artist: Lindsay Joy

Lindsay Joy is as inspirational as her artwork. Here’s how she rediscovered her passion for painting:

“Formerly a graphic designer, I left the creative arts in search of a bigger purpose which I thought to be nursing. Then eleven years later on my way to work,  I fell down a flight of icy stairs and banged my head. After being diagnosed with a concussion, I couldn’t work, I couldn’t look at my phone, I couldn’t even watch TV… but somehow I could paint. So that’s what I did and I ended up coming around full circle, finding myself feeling whole for the first time in my life. This is called the Lindsay Joy Project because it is the byproduct of actively choosing joy every single day.”

If you follow Lindsay on Instagram, you may recognize the winter blend label artwork as part of her new special series. Here is what Lindsay had to say when she posted it on November 3, 2023.

“Seven acrylic paintings on 16x20 canvas as celebration of the upcoming season. also part of my 2023 holiday collection.”

They were available for purchase at the Cheerfully Made Holiday Market in Almonte at the old town hall.

We were fortunate enough to get to feature one of these seven designs for our new brew. It’s a delightfully colorful scene of Christmas trees, including a few with Lindsay’s characteristic white flowers within them, along with a couple of cute birds, an angel-ified tree, a star tree topper, and a string light ornament. Your eyes just can’t help but dance across the artwork exploring all of the intricate details that come together to paint a picture-perfect holiday story. This, like all of her other works, is full of her personality.

“My work combines my love of bold designs and cheerful colours. I love abstract, landscape and FLOWERS!” – Lindsay

Tasting Notes And Flavors

This organic, washed process, and FLO-certified winter blend comes from the Pangoa District in Peru, in the Selva Central region, thanks to the Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Pangoa (1). It was grown at an altitude of 1000 to 2050 m. This medium roast (our roast level 4) is acidic yet with a berry sweet surprise due to its tasting notes of blackberries intermingling beautifully with brown sugar and milk chocolate flavors. It also has the subtlest hint of almond.

The Seasonal Coffee Artist Series invites local talent to be featured on bags of Equator Coffee. Changing with every season, each limited edition coffee blend label will feature the season-related art of one artist or designer selected by Equator from the diverse communities connected to our coffee. Inquiries regarding submissions can be sent to outreach@equator.ca
